Everyone has a different interpretation of a word. The internal imaginations. thoughts and hallucinations that a word can provoke are different from person to person. We all think that words have specific, definite, and universal meanings. And that everyone interprets exactly the same way as we do. But that may not be so. Language has its limitations.
No Matter What You Say Or How You Say It, Language Has Its Limitations
What do you think of when you hear or read the word ‘success’? Or ‘love’? What about ‘confidence’? Or ‘courage’? You may be imagining and thinking about something completely different than what I do. If two people have different reactions or if they imagine different meanings, it does not mean either of them is wrong. Everybody has their own way to interpret and translate.
Each word can bring a vision or imagination to your mind. And every mind is different. We’ve all been raised and conditioned in our own unique way.
So even when you say or write a sentence, people may be thinking of something different from you. You might think that they heard or read everything that you said, word for word, but they still don’t get it? Be aware that language has its limitations. Your exact words may be interpreted differently.
Do You Always Need Language To Communicate?
Music has been called the universal language of mankind. It doesn’t need translation. Great art is received through your emotions – it doesn’t require the use of your conscious thinking mind. Listen to some Mozart, view a beautiful Salvador Dali painting, watch a Stanley Kubrick movie. What are these great artists really trying to tell you? They don’t need to talk or to write words to explain. They communicate on higher and deeper levels without having to use the limitations of language.
Did everybody who read this understand exactly the point I am trying to explain?
