A Cherokee Story About The Struggle In Your Mind

Focus On The Positive

We all struggle with the everyday problems, adversities, and cares of the world. It’s so easy to allow ourselves to get caught up in all the negativity. And many times we add more and more negative emotions – anger, self-pity, regret, etc. We’re just adding fuel to the fire. Making the situation much worse.

When you learn to control your mind, you will be able to handle your negative emotions. And not let this negativity infect your state of being. Just because you think something bad is happening to you, it does not give you the excuse to act like a brat. Obviously, that is not pleasant for anyone around you, but this negativity does so much harm to your own health – physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The Struggle In Your Mind

I read this Cherokee tale and found it to be an accurate representation of what goes on in your mind. The important thing is how are you going to react? With anger and fear – or with optimism, hope and strength?

I think we can all learn from a lot from this story – and will help us all deal with the struggle –

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, fear, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

Struggle

“The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied,

“The one you feed.”
